About
Niki Zohdi (b. 1997) is a composer whose music explores obscurity, re-contextualisation, distortion, and perceptions of pre-existing materials in his work. Niki's music has been performed and workshopped across the UK and Europe by Achrome Ensemble, .abeceda, Carlos Cordeiro and Rolf Hind amongst others.
Niki has received tuition from Roger Redgate, Michael Finnissy, Chaya Czernowin and Clara Iannotta, and was recently awarded a PhD in composition from the University of Leeds where he was supervised by Martin Iddon and Michael Spencer.
He has conducted works from composers ranging from Palestrina and Byrd to Scelsi and Gubaidolina, conducting various choral and orchestral ensembles in workshops, rehearsals, and performances. As a tenor, Niki has sung in several professional choirs, as well as being a soloist across the country with notable performances such as Haydn's Nelson Mass at St John's Smith Square in 2020 and the premiere of Alastair White's opera, Hareflight, in 2022. Currently, Niki sings in Sheffield Cathedral Choir and in the professional choir, Borealis.
Outside of music, Niki is interested in fine food and wine having dined in many different types of restaurants throughout the world. Along with his his friend (and food anthropologist), Ryan Leeming, Niki writes restaurant reviews on their new blog Northern Fodder. Niki also enjoys watching test match cricket, and travels the world as much as possible.
